Arnold Wesker's no Dummy, though his
evil alter-ego Scarface is. Orphaned as a
child, the timed Wesker repressed his
feelings so deeply that he developed
multiple personalities to cope with life's
stresses. When Wesker finally lost his
pent up emotions, he killed a man in a
barroom brawl and was sentenced to
Black Gate Penitentiary. There he
encountered the puppet Scarface. They
broke out of prison and together
Scarface and the 'unwilling' Ventriloquist
carved out a significant niche in
Gotham's underworld. It remains unclear
who is really pulling the strings in their
bizarre relationship.
-- The Ultimate Batman Guide
Real Name: Arnold Wesker
Alias: The Ventriloquist
Home Base: Gotham City
Height: 5'3" Weight: 130
Occupation: Crime Boss
Diagnosis: Split personality disorder / Stockholm Syndrome
Early Life:
Young Arnold was a shy child. Scrawny for his age and fawned
on by his parents. His father was the head of the rather potent
Wesker-mob, seen by jealous eyes of his brother Carmen. At the
age of 6, Carmen had Arnold's parents murdered and then took
the young boy under his wing to secure his hold on the mafia.
Arnold suffered much abuse from both his uncle, his cousin Leon
and countless school bullies. He grew up timid and scared of his
surroundings.
Prison and Scarface:
Most of Arnie's young adult life was miserable. He didn't have a lot
of friends, he was too scared to talk to people. He resorted to
drinking to pass the time -- it would be drinking that would change
his life forever. In a drunken stupor -- he killed a man who was
picking on him in a bar and got set to Black Gate for murder. It was
in Black Gate where he met the widdler Donnagon. A multi-murder
doing several life sentences, Donnagon did not take kindly to the
small mid age man put up in his cell and constantly tormented him.
The only light in this mixture of suffering was the Ventriloquist
Dummy Donnagon had carved named Woody. Arnold slowly began
to loose his mind due to Donnagon's abuse till he snapped on night
and actually believed Woody was talking to him. Donnagon --
having already warned Arnold not to touch the puppet returned to
the cell and attacked the older man with a stolen cork screw
scratching the dummy's face. Arnold retalated -- hitting Donnagon
with a brick. The then hung the man from the window and escaped
the prison via the tunnel the other man had been digging. Scarface
taught him how to throw his voice, and they began their life of crime
together.
Socko:
During the burning of Arkham Asylum and Knightfall --
Scarface was missing and in an attempt to find him, Arnold
created another personality -- the sock puppet, Socko!
Eventually they were able to locate the missing puppet, but
here the personalities clashed badly. The puppets finally
decided to settle their differences
-- with a shoot out! Leaving Arnold with bullet riddle hands.
Rhino:
Of all the goons that come and go for Scarface, only
one man stays put even when the dummy is not
present. Charles Dayle "Rhino" is a very large
dimwitted man whose loyalties may like a bit deeper
then most. He met Arnold in prison and has been
following him sense.
Rhino isn't around for his mental power, he loves to
ram his head into things and will literally tear someone
apart if they threaten either one of his bosses.
Rehabilitation and Failure:
Arnold has tried several times to rid himself of the Scarface
personality. Even so far as to allowed Dr. Arkham to set the puppet
on fire. He fairs -- for a short while. But there is usually someone
who wants to gain from seeing the poor man pressed under the little
wooden tyrants thumb again. Arnold can not -- it wold seem --
survive in the outside world with out his more dominate personality.
Death:
Arnold was killed in the canon. Shot to death by a rather
unremarkable criminal and replaced with a fake female ventriloquist
who appears to be under the notion that Scarface is haunted. This
however -- is not set in stone, as the little man could be back at any
time.
We hope....
